Coral Seas

The panel is based on the myriad of corals found in the Great Barrier Reef. The reef is the creation of millions upon millions of living organisms, both animals and plants. The coral animals, or polyps, are no more than 1cm long and attach themselves to already existing coral rocks. They divide and create elaborate colonies from a few centimetres to many metres across. They assume a bewildering variety of shapes from those resembling antlers to looking similar to the human brain, each shape being characteristic of a particular group of corals. The coral framework provides shelter for a huge diversity of underwater life.
