River of Life Stole
The design is based on Revelation 22 vs. 1-2
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
The colour of a river changes according to what is dissolved in it, and also from the effect of reflections from the surroundings. In 40 years the priest has met thousands of people, all of whom will have contributed to his life as well as him contributing to theirs. The watery colours are worked in chain stitch to represent the links he has had with others over so many years.
The colours gradually change to show how his relationship with God has grown.
The water is contained by a street of gold – the path of God that he has been faithfully following.
The background depicts the leaves on the bank – too numerous to count – to signify the people feeling the healing touch of God as a result of his priestly ministry.
Running down the centre of the river is a ‘crystal’ thread, the thread which binds man and God.
