Arboretum
The design is based on scenes at Thorp Perrow Arboretum, North Yorkshire.
The background is filled with a variety of canvas work stitches in shades of green, using many different types of thread. The name of this piece ‘ARBORETUM’ can be found on the raised felted areas. Freehand stitchery is worked on top of the background in shades of green ‘flower’ threads. Beads and sequins and net are incorporated into the design which, along with the numerous stitch types, help to reflect the many textures found in an arboretum. Superimposed on areas of the canvas work background are the names of various types of trees, but these are far from obvious and would take a very detailed study to find! The simple natural wood edging to the piece completes the tree theme.
